Let's face it -- there's nothing more frustrating than wanting to update your furniture, only to feel unqualified and uninspired. Then you keep stalling, and the pieces sit around gathering dust for months or years. And there's nothing more disheartening than finally giving it a go -- only to get frustrated midway through and give up altogether!
You know that you should be planning and practicing your project. Maybe you've even tried copying a technique you've seen online.
And yet, it's not quite working.
You have too many ideas and you're not sure which one to try. You don't know how to properly prep first. Which products are best, and how do you finish a piece? Finally, you might feel like you're just not creative enough.
Other people make it look easy. But for you, it's been anything but. You thought that the hard part was going to be choosing a good quality piece to paint, but as it turns out, that was only just the beginning. And now you feel like you must be missing something.
And you're not alone. Many aspiring furniture painters are.
The truth is that having the knowledge and confidence to beautifully paint furniture is a game changer, one that will save you money over buying brand new, give you a hobby to brag about, and maybe even earn you extra money as a side hustle.
The problem? Narrowing down your design plan, knowing how to make repairs, and learning how to get a professional-looking finish often make the reward of painting gorgeous custom furniture more trouble than it's worth.
But what if there was a way to make sure you got it right?
Years ago, I was looking for a creative outlet and a way to save money furnishing my home. I started buying thrifted furniture and trying to fix up the damage and make it pretty again. I made a lot of mistakes and learned so much!
In 2012 I founded Girl in the Garage® to share my projects and inspire others to be more creative. I believe you don't have to be a talented artist to transform outdated furniture into beautiful functional pieces.
My makeovers have become quite popular and have been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, This Old House, Farmhouse Style, and many more. Also, my book Amazing Furniture Makeovers: Easy DIY Projects to Transform Thrifted Finds into Beautiful Custom Pieces was published in 2019 and consistently receives high reviews.
In my new program Furniture Makeover Academy, I'll teach you how to confidently repair, prep, paint, and finish furniture so you too can get brag-worthy results on a budget!
Furniture Makeover Academy is a comprehensive online program, designed to help you learn all the steps to update outdated furniture, so that you'll stop procrastinating and finally complete the projects you've been putting off.
Furniture Makeover Academy was created to help new furniture painters boldly take action - because it's so frustrating to have 100 ideas and no idea how to actually execute them.
If you are an aspiring furniture painter, or if you've been searching for a creative hobby that could possibly change your life, this is an opportunity that I promise you will not want to miss.
When you're not sure what you're doing, that's when fear and doubt can creep in. Don't sabotage yourself with negativity before you even start! Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "Knowledge is the antidote to fear." Furniture Makeover Academy equips you with the foundational knowledge to update furniture by following the steps below:
You'll learn how to choose the best types of furniture for painting and what types to avoid. Next get your workspace set up and gather the supplies you'll need. Then collect makeover ideas and finally - narrow down which technique you want to use.
Learn everything from prep work like sanding and priming, to common simple repairs, and then follow along with videos of step-by-step furniture makeovers - not only watching, but also learning the "why" behind decisions that are made during the process.
Finally, choose which topcoat is best for your project and learn how to maintain the beautiful finish for years to come. Discover how to care for your supplies so they last longer, and then refine your signature painting style so you'll be easily recognizable if you start flipping furniture for profit.
When you purchase Furniture Makeover Academy, you will have instant access to all the tools you need to learn how to paint beautiful furniture. Our proven process provides a step-by-step plan for how to plan, prep, paint, and finish - so you'll never wonder what your next step should be.
FURNITURE MAKEOVER ACADEMY PROGRAM
FMA will teach you the essential foundations to transform furniture that you'll be proud of.
Step 1: Plan will get you totally prepared to start your project. You'll learn what furniture to look for and avoid, how to get your workspace ready and find time, what initial supplies and investment you'll need, and how to decide what style and technique to try.
Step 2: Transform will walk you through prep work, simple repairs, and then painting techniques with four furniture makeovers (a mirror, console table, storage cabinet, and a pair of nightstands) and one bonus tutorial (repurposed drawer to wreath hanger).
Step 3: Finish will show you how to protect your project, take care of your supplies and tools so they'll last longer, and how to hone your signature painting style.
The guides and videos will help you become a money-saving, furniture-updating expert, which you can happily keep as your own secret superpower - or start a side hustle with an eager waitlist of clients. Flip 1-2 pieces of furniture each week to help pay bills or save for that family vacation you've been daydreaming about. Plus, you can earn your investment back quickly because you'll be updating old furniture instead of buying new (have you seen the prices at furniture stores lately?!).
All FMA trainings are online and available at your convenience. Here's what's included:
FMA includes 15+ video lessons within 3 sections (Plan, Transform, Finish). There are also printable note sheets for each lesson so you can take notes.
This is a digital program which is accessed from your computer. Nothing will be mailed to you. You can watch videos from your home and print out materials from your printer.
In Furniture Makeover Academy you'll learn:
Great question! The tutorials on Girl in the Garage are meant to be read through in 3-5 minutes, and don't always go into a whole lot of detail for every step. Furniture Makeover Academy includes full step-by-step videos so you can watch everything I do, and also learn the "why" as I explain steps in detail.
Plus you get that personal human experience unlike reading a blog post, like I'm right there talking to you. :)
Can you find makeover tutorials for free online elsewhere? Sure, but you'll have to dig through countless websites and YouTube videos, only to learn conflicting information, from someone with far less experience than I have. Learn from someone who has over 10 years of experience and who you can trust to tell you the correct advice. Don't waste your precious time elsewhere, only to end up frustrated and confused.
Once you purchase Furniture Makeover Academy, you'll have an option to create your login information and then access the material immediately. You'll also receive a welcome email so you can log in later if you'd prefer.
While we appreciate your enthusiasm to share what you've learned in FMA, the program lessons and printable sheets are under copyright by Girl in the Garage and are only intended for the purchaser. Sharing your login info or other program materials with other people may cause you to lose access to Furniture Makeover Academy and be subject to legal ramifications. However, let us know if you'd like to refer a friend and we can give you an affiliate commission as a thank you!
Who will benefit from FMA: If you're a beginner and have a project (or several) in mind but don't know where to start, and are afraid that you'll mess it up - or if you've tried to paint furniture before but have been unhappy with the results.
Who may not benefit from FMA: If you've painted many pieces and feel like you already know what you're doing, and are pleased with how they've turned out.
FMA is broken into step-by-step sections so you can follow along at your convenience. The lessons are pre-recorded, which means you can start, stop, and replay as often as needed. Once you complete the program, you'll be able to complete most types of makeovers within a day or a weekend.
The great thing about old furniture is you can find it for cheap at thrift stores and yard sales, and even curbside for free. You will need some basic supplies such as a paint brush, sandpaper, possibly primer, paint, and a topcoat. When you're just starting out, you don't need to spend a lot of money. Buy what you can afford and what you feel comfortable spending. I'll give multiple options for supplies based on your budget.
FMA is a one-time expense. The price is $197, which you can quickly recoup. This includes all the video lessons and worksheets - with lifetime access so you can watch once or one hundred times, all at your convenience. The price also includes any future updates or additions to this program.
With the knowledge you'll gain, you'll have the skills to update as much furniture as you'd like. Think of the thousands of dollars you'll save over buying brand new (and the quality nowadays isn't as great as some of the vintage pieces you can find). Plus, if you decide to start selling some of your projects, you'll recoup your investment even faster!
